A mission statement is a statement of identity or purpose. It is a statement that defines the Baptist General Convention of Missouri—who we are and why we exist. The BGCM’s mission is to serve churches and church leaders as they fulfill the Great Commandment and the Great Commission.
The vision statement is a statement of direction or destination. It is a statement that describes where the BGCM is going or the direction of the journey. Our vision is to be an organization that gives First Priority to Serving Churches.
First Priority is all about churches. It is
about acknowledging that the convention exists to serve churches and church
leaders. It is about focusing on the needs of local congregations and
seeking to minimize the convention’s bureaucracies and overhead. It is an
effort to remember that conventions are merely the way churches cooperate to
strengthen their ministries and do together what they would not be able to
do alone.
First Priority includes four Great Commission
Initiatives—Leadership Development, Congregational Health, Church Planting
and Missions Mobilization. These are the areas where the BGCM must take
decisive action as we serve churches. Our two Resource Initiatives are
Ministry Resources and Congregational Relationships. You can click the
links to the left to learn more about these initiatives. A First
Priority
brochure and a brief video that provides an overview of the plan are
available free of charge from the convention office or click
here for a
downloadable copy of the brochure.
If you are tired of denominational conflict or convention organizations that are focused on their own needs, we invite you to explore First Priority with us. Come learn about a new way to cooperate that is based upon historic Baptist principles. Explore with us how God might use our churches to reach our state for Christ.
